I was sceptical that a silk pillowcase would benefit my skin and hair in any way. So when Silkskin offered me one to try, I thought it would be worth suspending that scepticism for a month to experience it for myself.
The Silkskin pillowcase* is white and fits most standard pillows. It suits my Tempur pillow fine with a bit of space to spare in fact. It feels really cool to the touch so is lovely to use at the end of the day. I have to admit that I have been cautious to avoid getting any gave cream or masks on the silk pillowcase by doing my evening skincare routine ahead of bedtime. I realise that avoiding the chore of washing silk is also a great incentive to not go to bed with a trace of makeup on my face too. Not that this is something that I like to do anyway.
Having used the silk pillowcase for a month I noticed that my hair has been less knotted and frizzy in the mornings. It doesn’t matter how bad a night’s sleep that I have either. As my hair is a long bob, I cannot sleep with it tied up anymore so it does usually suffer from my tossing and turning during my slumber. The fact my hair hasn’t been quite so tortured looking these past few weeks has been pleasing. Not to say that I’ve had to retire my hairbrush but I’ve certainly had to worry less about frizz and “bed head”. The main noticeable benefit has to be that my hair seems to shinier and smoother with less effort anyway. Probably because the silk doesn’t ruffle the hair cuticles so roughly during my sleep.
Skin wise I cannot hold up any claim for reducing wrinkles and crinkles. But my skin hasn’t broken out with blemishes as much this past month despite my poor health. It’s probably not all down to the pillow mind as I am taking the Seven Seas Simply Timeless capsules and I’m very much into that trial now.
I love how the silk pillowcase looks. It’s chic and unobtrusive in my decor despite me not having a full set of bedding to match. I feel this is one of those beauty purchases that you may not get too excited about but actually, you’d see the difference as soon as you stopped using it. At £49 I think these are worth the investment as with the proper care, these silk pillowcases would last years and the benefits were noticeable for me (at least with my hair) within the first month. I’m going to have to order one for Mr Ting as I’d love to see if it helps him look better in the mornings too.
