I’ve only ever had a pedicure once in my life and that was with Cloud Spas so when &Beauty in John Lewis invited me in for a luxury pedicure I was delighted to go along. &Beauty is situated on the second floor of John Lewis in Grand Central and is the only one across the John Lewis stores. So it feels pretty special that Birmingham has this salon and I’m regularly there getting my brows threaded and for gel manicures.
To try a luxury pedicure is really quite the treat though. For this service you get booked into one of the treatment rooms round the back of the salon. It’s really peaceful and there is no clue that you are inside John Lewis at all. I was given a drink and settled onto the treatment bed with a comfy cushion.
A luxury pedicure begins with preparing the nails for colour. During this time I was given the colour wheel so I could select what colour gels I wanted. I couldn’t decide so I selected a few and was shown the bottles of my shortlisted colours. I ended up choosing something a bit autumnal as I am feeling the change in the seasons right now.
The gel colour is then applied after a priming base coat, and finished with a top coat; all of which are set with an LED lamp. It was all comfortable and I didn’t find the lamp too warm when in use.
After the gel is all set, then the skin on my feet and legs could be pampered. This was the loveliest part of the treat. I had my skin buffed, exfoliated and then moisturised using products that all smelt incredible. It was that spa sensation at that point as the fragrances filled the treatment room. I was even given a choice over the essential oils used so the fragrance could be personalised to me. If that isn’t luxury then what is?
After the treatment the skin on my legs and feet felt and looked so smooth and healthy. It’s amazing the difference a bit of buffing, exfoliation and massage makes to the skin isn’t it? It makes me realise how I should try to maintain this at home when I can.
I am in love with the OPI colour that I had too. It’s a pretty shade called Amore at the Grand Canal that is perfect for early autumn. Though as things are here in the UK, it’s unlikely that my feet will be out of boots at the moment!
I love how shiny and hard wearing gel nail polish is. It makes maintenance so much easier and I know that if I want to wear open toe shoes, then my toes will be presentable even at a moment’s notice. Also, as the gel is so long wearing I know that I can safely neglect my polish for three weeks and it will still look perfect. I can’t believe that it’s taken a year since &Beauty opened for me to try a luxury pedicure but I have to say that I am a convert!
A 60 minute luxury pedicure at &Beauty is £46 and includes a glass of prosecco. Book online or by calling 0121 634 6037.
